Marina Rustow, Assosciate Professor, Emory University, donnera 4 conférences, dans le cadre des séminaires de Sylvie Anne Goldberg, Maurice Kriegel et Judith Olszowy-Schlanger
How did the fragmentation of the Abbasid caliphate in the tenth century transform the character of medieval Judaism and contribute to its survival and efflorescence? These lectures will introduce the language and methods that Jewish religious specialists and communal leaders in the Middle Ages utilized to persuade their followers to remain loyal to rabbinic Judaism—and what those methods tell us about the larger world of medieval Near Eastern politics. ‘
