Talal Asad is the Distinguished Professor of Anthropology at the City University of New York.
He is one of the world's leading socio-cultural anthropologists and has conducted extensive research on the phenomenon of religion and secularism, particularly the religious revival in the Middle East and Islam.
Professor Asad's publications include Genealogies of Religion (1993), Anthropology and the Colonial Encounter (1995), and Formations of the Secular: Christianity, Islam, Modernity (2003).
