The Soldiers’ Life in Middle Period China, 907-1279

The arrogant mighty professional soldiers with tattoos on the forehead or the hand lost their superiority complex after the Song dynasty entered a peaceful time. Soldiers could be promoted to middle-ranking officers but rarely to top officers. The government policy of recruiting stronger men in famine times kept on enlarging the military population. More than a half of the residents in the capital city were army men and their families. This lecture is trying to spread the life scroll of these tattooed soldiers .
